#138 The Great Outdoors

The Great Outdoors was designed to feature a fabric collection called "North by Northwest" that Lynette Jensen of Thimbleberries designed for the 2009 Northwest Quilting Expo in Portland, Oregon. The border fabric features vintage type postcards of famous landmarks in Oregon and Washington.

I designed this quilt in mind with all the things I love about the Northwest - pine trees, mountains and boating! This pattern is quite adaptable for other fabrics and colorways depending on where you live.

This quilt features a variety of quilt block sizes, borders, and techniques:
Center block: 8" x 8"
Pine tree blocks: 3" x 3" paper pieced
Sail boats: 3" x 3" pieced
Pinwheel blocks: 4" x 4" pieced
Mountains: 4" x 4" appliqued

Skill level: Intermediate
Finished Quilt Size: 39" x 39"

Cost: $8

#139 Log Cabin Ornaments

Combine counted cross stitch and quilting! These ornaments can be sewn from a "planned" fabric strip sequence or from a variety of red, green or Christmas fabrics for a scrappy look. Good project for fat quarters!

* If you do not want to do the cross stitch center, and then just use a 3" square of fabric of your choice.
* If you just bind the finished log cabin cross stitched square without adding the hanging loop, you can use them as holiday coasters.

Skill level: Intermediate
Finished Ornament Size: 5" x 5"

Cost: $8

#140 Cider Mill

I grew up in Ohio but live in Washington so I love apples! I even have an apple motif kitchen so the wall hanging or table runner fits perfectly in my decor. It doesn't matter if your apples are red, yellow or green as there are so many varieties!

Directions are included to make a:
* Quilt: 12 blocks - 50" x 61"
* Table Runner: 4 blocks - 18" x 51"
